June-July

May Top Lambs

Philp Sheep Company, Shoshoni, Wyoming, marketed the top set of lambs through the Co-op in May.   The load, fed by the Philps, was 71% Y2’s and 27% Y3’s. They earned an average premium per head on the grid of $7.52.

Julian Land and Livestock, Kemmerer, Wyoming was a close second.   Fed at Miller Feedlot, this load was 81% Y2’s and 13% Y3’s and earned an average grid premium of $7.49. They also qualified for a $3.98 per head natural premium, bringing the total premium to a whopping $11.47 per head.

We will recognize all our producers who had top lambs during the last year at our annual meeting.

MSLC Annual Meeting

Based on the number of rooms reserved, we are expecting a record number of  members at our Annual Meeting, July 16-18 in Red Lodge, Montana.  The Rock Creek Resort and Beartooth Mountains provide a spectacular setting, and if you are lucky you may even see a bear. Combined with great people, good food, and an informative agenda, we expect to have a successful meeting.

Our block of rooms filled up by the June 15th deadline.  If you have not made arrangements we suggest the following:

Check first with Rock Creek Resort as they have had a few rooms open up from another group. You can reach the resort at 1-800-667-1119.  The Beartooth Hideway Inn and Cabins has rooms available for Wednesday and Thursday night and is located near the Rock Creek Resort.  Their number is 1-800-813-8335.  Mention you are with Mountain States Lamb to get a 10% discount.

It is very important to note that because of a motorcycle rally in Red Lodge that weekend there are no rooms available on Friday night in Red Lodge, except the few that we have left at the Rock Creek Resort.  If you need a room for Friday night, please call them as soon as possible. You may be fortunate enough to get rooms for all three nights at Rock Creek or you may need to stay Wednesday and Thursday night at the Beartooth Hideaway and Friday night at Rock Creek.

If you have an RV, you will want to call the KOA at 1-800-562-7540, Perry’s RV at 406-446-2722, or Painter’s Outpost at 307-527-5510, as soon as possible, as they reportedly filling up fast.

Red Lodge Tour and Taxi also offers full service taxi service from the Billings airport.  They can be reached at 406-425-3091. For more information about the area log onto www.redlodge.com.  If you have questions or need additional help please call the Co-op office.
